Like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes, Dan Rather has experienced a rebirth of his career in a way no one thought possible. While droves of reporters are retiring from the hustle and bustle of the newsroom, Rather has staged a remarkable comeback: he currently reaches more people through Facebook than watched him in his evening news anchor days!
To most, Rather’s career seemed doomed after he fell from the lofty perch of CBS Evening News anchor.
The Texas native retired from his position in 2005, a few months after suffering backlash for using a series of discredited memos in a report critical of President George W. Bush’s service record in the Texas Air National Guard. Rather subsequently left the network altogether in 2006, ending a 44-year career as a journalist with CBS.
But that was hardly the end of Dan Rather. Against all odds, his adept use of social media become a vehicle which enabled him to become the face of News once again.
Indeed, Facebook currently supplies him a public voice where his posts reach an audience that numbers in the tens of millions!
